The 316 Steel steam boilers are something of our flagship. 316 and 304 stainless steels are both stainless steel alloys, but they have substantial differences in chemical composition and characteristics that make them more or less suitable for specific applications. Both fall into the family of austenitic stainless steels, which are known for their corrosion resistance, but differences in their composition directly affect performance in different environments.
Chemical composition and corrosion resistance:
Steel 304: is an alloy composed mainly of iron, with approximately 18% chromium and 8-9% nickel. This combination gives 304 steel good corrosion resistance, particularly in domestic and general industrial environments, such as in kitchens, appliances, pipes and tanks.
316 Steel: Has a similar composition to 304, but also contains a significant amount of molybdenum (around 2-3%). This further improves corrosion resistance, particularly against attack by chlorides and in saline environments. This makes 316 steel much better performing in harsher marine or industrial environments and in chemical and pharmaceutical plants.
Specific applications:
Steel 316: due to its superiority it is preferred for more demanding industrial applications. In the food industry, for example, it is used in contexts where resistance to corrosion (due to vapors or contact with salts) is crucial, as in steam ovens, boilers, pipes for the transport of food liquids, cooking utensils and, more generally, in industries that require high performance.
Why choose 316 in steam oven and cooking boilers:
In the case of steam oven boilers or other cooking equipment, 316 steel stands out for its ability to withstand extreme thermal cycling and prolonged exposure to high-pressure steam. In these environments, 304 steel may suffer damage, especially due to the presence of salt water or chloride-containing vapors. 316 steel, on the other hand, thanks to the presence of molybdenum, is able to maintain its resistance to corrosion even in these critical environments.
For these specific reasons we at GRC Italia produce 316 steel steam boilers for orders relating to the food sector.
